Frequently Asked Questions
We take the time to listen to your concerns. Depending on the complexity of the case, we may need around 60 minutes. It is important we gather as much information as we can in order for your chiropractor to create a thorough diagnosis and treatment plan for you.
Try to wear loose or stretchy clothing, as your chiropractor may be moving you around to test your joints, nervous system and muscles. If you have any skin allergies to specific massage oil ingredients, please inform us in advance.
Your First Visit Will Include:
A detailed consultation to understand your symptoms and medical history
A thorough physical examination, which may include posture analysis and movement tests
A personalised treatment plan designed just for you
If needed, we may refer you for X-rays or other imaging to ensure the best care.
Verbal Report Of Findings
Before starting treatment, your Chiropractor will tell you, in clear, simple language, what is wrong, what can be done to address it and what you can expect. It is beneficial if you bring along your husband/wife/fiancé/partner as there will be a lot of information to take in, and because having treatment is often a commitment in terms of both time and money, which is best made together with whomever it may also influence.
Your treatment will in most cases consist of a course of treatment visits over a number of weeks, specified to your particular problems. In the early stages, the changes to the body are short lived and require adjustments more often. As your nervous system becomes adapted to the desired changes to posture, mobility and function, there is less need to be adjusted as often. This will be measured and monitored each time at the beginning of the follow-up treatment.
Treatment
If you are offered treatment at the first visit, treatment costs will be explained to you by your Chiropractor and charged at the end of your visit.
Treatment consists of very precise 'adjustments' of specific joints. The adjustments are done by a qualified chiropractor and are usually not painful. Some of the treatment techniques produce a ‘click’ or ‘pop’ from the joint, is the air within the joints releasing. Treatment aims to restore normal function of the joints, whereby irritation to the nervous system is alleviated. The aim of treatment is not only to relieve symptoms but to restore and maintain optimal health and well being.
When nerves are no longer compressed, they can more effectively transmit vital signals, allowing the healing process to begin on multiple levels. Many patients describe feeling more relaxed and noticing long-held tension or stress gradually fading away.
While the recovery journey takes time, some experience immediate improvements, such as reduced or eliminated pain, increased mobility and better posture.
This is very much dependent on the individual and their goals. We always aim to encourage your body to get as much time between adjustments as possible. In the early stages, the changes to the body are short lived and require adjustments more often. As your nervous system becomes adapted to the desired changes to posture, mobility and function, there is less need to be adjusted as often. Most of our patients on maintenance care try to get adjusted between every 4 to 12 weeks. We offer advice, but it is completely your choice!
Yes. This is exactly what we mean by maintenance and preventative care. Your body constantly endures daily physical and mental stress. Pain and stiffness sometimes is a sign of having an issue that has been left unresolved for too long. While many patients initially seek care due to pain, our goal is to assess and adjust before problems even arise.
Your Chiropractor should hold a 5 year full time Master’s degree recognised by the regulatory body in the UK - General Chiropractic Council (GCC). At Prospine Chiropractic, we are fully licensed, insured and registered with the GCC and British Chiropractic Association (BCA).
The Chiropractors Act 1994 provides statutory regulation for the profession and the title ‘chiropractor’ is protected under this legislation. The statutory regulator is the General Chiropractic Council (GCC) and it is illegal to practise as a chiropractor without being registered with the GCC.
